Anna Bacon was born in London, studied at the Royal College of Music and Cambridge University obtaining an MA Honours degree. At Cambridge she appeared as a soloist and performed at several concerts including with Emmanuel College Choir. - Cello and Bass floor anchorsCello and Bass floor anchors Cello and Bass floor anchors do just what they say – they go on the floor in front of you and anchor the cello so it doesn’t slide away. Generally speaking there is no advantage of one over the other except that some require a chair to anchor to. If a suitable chair is not available, one with a rubber backing is recommended such as the Blackhole or Viva floorstop. If you regularly play on a long pile carpet, an anchor with a strap is recommended. A recent development in floorstops is the resonator chamber which also enhances the sound.

Most Violin Chinrests and Viola Chinrests are available in ebony, rosewood or boxwood and with a selection of clamps. Copies of these chinrests in plastic are ideal for inexpensive educational instruments. In general: Violinists and violists need harder or dryer rosins Cellists need a medium rosin Bassists need softer, stickier rosins 2) Another factor influencing the choice is the kind of core material of the string you use: Steel strings can be better played with a hard or dry rosin Synthetic and gut strings can be better played with soft-medium rosins 3) Experienced players tend to prefer softer rosins for the studio but harder rosins in the concert hall. Hard rosins are best in tropical climate and softer rosins in a colder climate. 4) Rosins do dry out and lose their characteristic formula so it is recommended using a cake for 1 year only.
