Description
The Stentor Student II Violin outfit has for decades now been considered the reference standard violin outfit for educationalists – it has often been copied, even to the colour and piping of the case, but never matched. Set up in Caswell’s workshop you have the ideal instrument to set you off on your violin playing journey.
The violin itself is of high quality, handmade in Stentor’s own workshop. The pegs, nut and saddle are ebony and the violin is fitted with quality strings and metal tailpiece with integral adjusters.
The Stentor Student II Violin outfit comes complete with a case with an integral cover and carrying straps plus a good quality wood bow with ebony frog.
Upgrade strings?: Strings are standard factory fitted steel strings or you have the option of upgrading the violin by upgrading the strings. Upgrading the strings to branded, synthetic core strings will further enhance the instrument giving it a warmer and fuller sound. You can of course add any preferred string on our website to your basket and request they be fitted to the violin but we offer here three of the most popular set-ups as standard options: set up with D’Addario Prelude strings, Pirastro Tonica strings or the best selling Thomastik Dominant strings.
This violin is also available with Finetune pegs, greatly assisting in tuning – click here. The next level up in the Stentor range is the Stentor Conservatoire.

Richard –
We bought the 3/4 size Student II for our daughter, as she has outgrown her sparkly purple Stentor Harlequin, both in size, and musically. As professional musicians ourselves, my wife and I wanted a sensibly priced instrument of suitable quality, and from a known, reputable source. We also wanted to know that it would have been set up correctly (bridge and sound post positioning etc) as required. When it arrived, it was indeed set up nicely, and was ready to play straight out of the box (string tuning aside, obviously). We had chosen to upgrade the strings to a Pirastro Tonica set, and the sound is excellent for an instrument at this price level. For anyone who is not overly knowledgeable on string instruments, good quality strings and a correctly set up instrument are vital; skimping on either of these really is a false economy. Even very expensive, high quality intruments will sound awful if they have not been set up correctly, or if they do not have decent strings. Our daughter’s violin teacher is also very impressed with this whole package, including commenting on how nice the bow feels. The case is light, but still feels like it should provide a reasonable degree of protection. As a package at this price, we really cannot see how you could buy better for your budding virtuoso. We should also mention that the staff at Caswell’s were brilliant – polite, helpful and well informed about their instruments. Overall, an excellent shopping experience!
