Description
Since its introduction eight years ago, the Jay Haide L’Ancienne Violin has become the flagship of the Jay Haide fleet. They are envied and copied by other makers, but as much as they have tried, none have come close to equalling them. Some have gone so far as to put facsimile labels of well known French and Italian makers in the instruments and selling them at much inflated prices.
In following tradition, each Jay Haide L’Ancienne Violin is carefully and painstakingly hand varnished to emulate the appearance of a fine old Stradivari or Guadagnini violin. First they re-create the colour, texture and patina of the golden ground coat. To that they add a beautiful golden orange varnish in a pattern simulating the wear and use found in the great classic old instruments. In order to do that, they have provided their luthiers with fine old Italian and French instruments so that they can be studied while they are working. It is this attention to detail that has created the demand for the Jay Haide L’Ancienne Violin around the world.

Jay Haide L’Ancienne Violin set up by Caswells Strings: Instruments not properly set up can be very detrimental to the performance and feel of an instrument, affecting progress and enjoyment and even leading to the player being put off for life. We operate a strict policy of setting up every instrument in our workshop to exact standards and specifications regardless of whether it is an entry level or an advancing instrument. The bridge and top nut is correctly cut and the soundpost correctly positioned. The pegs, fingerboard, case and bow (where applicable) are checked. Instruments are shipped with the bridges up.
