Slipping pegs are an absolute pain and quite universal. The reasons are various, but the most common is if there is a dramatic change in the weather. Wood is a natural substance which can expand and contract at different rates due to the heat, humidity or cooling of weather, thus causing the pegs to become loose in the pegbox. A remedy which may help, is to apply a type of paste to the pegs (Peg-paste).
Another possible reason your pegs are slipping could be down to the workmanship of the peg shaping. The pegs have a tapered fit that holds them tightly in place, but if the peg or the peg box has not been cut and fitted correctly it will not be able to withstand the tension of the strings, and hence slip back. This could be due to a poorly made instrument or possible wear, and if this is the case you may need to have a whole new set of pegs cut and fitted and we recommend bringing it in to assess.
